All about Guruvayur marriage

Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple is the only temple where the maximum numbers of marriage take place. Guruvayur wedding is a divine favor to start a new life together not only for the bride and groom but also the two families with the blessings of God Guruvayur Kalyana Krishnan. The blessings of the Lord Guruvayurappan would have been always with the couple during their entire life.

Guruvayur Marriage Procedures and rituals

1. Take the marriage ticket and photography ticket with a rate of Rs. 1000/- from the temple offering advance counter within last 30 days period of wedding date and same day also possible to take the receipt 3 hours before marriage time. Thali pooja will be done inside the temple with a ticket cost of Rs.100/-. Online marriage booking is not availble at present
Bride can wear any kind of Saree and Groom can wear dhoti and even shirt, chapels are not allowed on mandap.
Eight members are allowed to accompany by bride and groom to enter the mandapam.
Two photographer and two videographers are allow to capture the wedding moments on temple marriage platform.
Marriage can be conducted any time between 5 AM to 1 PM. Small tulasi garlands is provided from the Temple mandap on marriage time, nadaswaram performance is accompanied by thakil and Kuzhithalam on time of wedding
Normally the Thalikettu (tying of the sacred mangalsutra) and exchange of thulsi garlands will be conducted in temple mandap by Kalyana Koyma, groom hold bride’s hand and circumvallate the lamp on stage to complete the rituals.
The newly married couple can’t enter the temple soon after their marriage.
Marriage Registration could not be done in Guruvayur Temple, it will be done by Guruvayur Municipality.

Four wedding platforms and special arrangements to avoid rush

There is placed Four kalyana mandapams in the eastern entrance of the temple for the tie knot ceremony. If there is less count of weddings only one mandap will be open for marriage and if there is rush of weddings other mandaps opens accordingly. 50 to 100 weddings happening in normal auspicious days but it leads to more than 200 weddings in a day on peak days. Record of 264 weddings held in Guruvayur temple in a single day of 5th September 2016. Temple witnessed 6926 weddings in last year 1196 from Chingam 1st to Karkkidakam 31st. Guruvayur Devaswom has made special arrangements to avoid extra rush to enter the kalyana mandap by separate three wedding stages by steel fence.
